Mangos For X-Box

so you have an old useless xbox laying around, make it usefull
your xbox needs to be modded, but thats no problem for u wizzkidz [Image: biggrin.gif]

this is build for the newest release (2.0.8)

ok this is really easy but long waiting times
now there's not allot to do but making the files takes like 10 hour!
so im thinking about making a simple iso that installs everything in one time since xboxes are all the same [Image: smile.gif]

first you need to download gentoox home

burn to dvd and install native (f disk is gone after this)
install is easy so no explanation about that
when its done it wants you to input what to run auto say no to all
use xfce and don't let it auto run (not needed and allot faster)

now you should have a command line that asks for user and pass
use "root" "xbox"
if u have no keyboard on your xbox use a ssh client like putty

ok lets get the files needed

download full linux source
make this .RAR a .ZIP file

download Xampp for linux

i asume you have mangos on your pc so put files in your website base dir

on your xbox (or ssh client):

Quote:'wget http://you.ip/'
'wget http://you.ip/xampp-linux-1.6.tar.gz'
'cd linuxsource'
'chmod 700 configure'
ok lets configure the files

Quote:'./configure --prefix=/opt/mangos --sysconfdir=/opt/mangos/etc --with-python --enable-cli --enable-ra --datadir=/opt'
takes like a minute

now this takes looong time (i meanlike 5 hours)

done... now your not done next command takes even longer
Quote:'make install'
ok now the waiting part is over
get the maps and dbc (from forum)
put them in your /opt/mangos
if you have no idea how 2 do this put them in zip files
wget them on your box (as shown above)
and unzip to there place

Quote:'mkdir /opt/mangos/dbc'
'mkdir /opt/mangos/maps'
'unzip /opt/mangos/dbc'
'unzip /opt/mangos/maps'
we need 2 edit the conf files so

Quote:'/nano /opt/mangos/etc/realmd.conf'
edit ip plus database info
ctrl-x to exit and save

Quote:'/nano /opt/mangos/etc/mangosd.conf'
edit ip plus database info
ctrl-x to exit and save

now xampp install

Quote:'tar xvfz xampp-linux-1.6.tar.gz -C /opt'
run it

Quote:'/opt/lampp/lampp start'
browse to your ip in your browser(on windows pc), go to phpmyadmin and create a user that has all rights from a network pc
you can now use sqlyog or whatever to put database in place
edit database to your settings (ip adres)

get a website for mangos, simple one here

open your ftp program and insert xbox ip with user and pass
'nobody' 'lampp'
put your site on it and edit config files

now that it all works make your xampp and server start automatic
realmd is not automatic run it in ssh client please
(realmd likes to crash or loop so you can see that right away)

Quote:'nano /etc/conf.d/local.start'
make this 2 lines:

Quote:'opt/lampp/lampp start'

'nice -n 20 opt/mangos/bin/mangosd'
you now have a fully working server
(run realmd with ssh client)

Quote:'nice -n 20 opt/mangos/bin/realmd'
hope you all enjoyed it as much as i did [Image: biggrin.gif]

Nice guide Ravine. But I would also like to add:

If you are going to be using your Xbox for this purpose, make sure you ajust your xbox's CPU fan. And that you replace the standard one.

Xbox overheat quite alot "Never have one sitting on a carpet, this goes for any console" and as such, you have to take mesures to make sure your xbox/wow server does not overheat.

You can pickup xbox heatsinks/fans easily enough, also other Xbox OS's have built in fan control, make sure the fans RPM is high enough to keep the cpu cool enough to last the lenth of time the console will be on.

If you need help doing this, ask Ravine or myself.

Death awaits you..

Yeah I couldn't mod an Xbox for life. If anyone has any guides or recommendations for it please share!
