Quote:Before reading any further, please note that if you are using a router you must
have a fundamental knowledge of your router and how to administer it...

Check out http://www.portforward.com which covers most routers and shows you how to map ports...

I will IGNORE all requests for help on how to port forward...

Configure MaNGOS for LAN + WAN Access

Welcome to this configuration guide...
Here I will show you how to configure MaNGOS for access by players on you lan...
As well as access for everyone on the internet / wan...
So lets begin...

--------------------------------------------------------------------
  1. Make sure your WoW server is installed and you can login via the same computer...
This is to make sure the server is fully working...
Otherwise no one will ever be able to connect...

    ---------------
  2. First things first... Signup to http://dyndns.com
And setup a new STATIC DNS or DYNAMIC DNS...
[use STATIC DNS for IP address that will never change]...
This will be your server's address for the rest of the guide...

    ---------------
  3. Ok... Now to forward the WoW ports...
Make sure they are redirected to the pc that is hosting the server...
    MaNGOS PORTS: 8085, 3724, 3443

All routers are different... check out http://www.portforward.com
    for more info...

Here is an example of my setup on one of my routers...
Ignore the details.. its only to display what its like...
    This is my wowemu router...

    ---------------
  4. Now we are going to setup a fake route...
This will allow you to connect to ur own pc using the domain name from dyndns.com...

    Find the HOSTS file in
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC\
OPEN it with you favourite text editor...
then ADD a new entry under the localhost one...

DO THIS FOR EACH COMPUTER ON UR LAN

    ---------------
  5. Now thats complete... Lets configure the mangos + realm server for connecting to the database...

    Goto where you installed mangos...
    Open up mangosd.conf and realmd.conf...
Setup the login info to match domain you setup in the HOSTS file...
Make sure the USERNAME and PASSWORD are correct or it will throw an "ACCESS DENIED" error...

    ---------------
  6. Ok... now onto configuring the REALMLIST in the realm database...

Firstly show the data in REALMD > REALMLIST...

Configure the ADDRESS to be the same as the HOSTS file...
The DBINFO field is only used for the website package..
DO NOT change anything else here unless u know what ur doing...

    ---------------
  7. Now all that is left is changing the REALMLIST.WTF...

    ---------------
  8. Now RESTART the realm + mangos server...

    ---------------
Now it all should be configured..
Enjoy playing wow online with your buddies....

Make sure your server address isn't too long in the realmlist table. Also make sure you have it running on the right port and that it's open.

its your external ip / no-ip.com address...

for when a client connects..
it connects to the realm server..
then the realm server gives the client the details of the game server...

[MaNGOS] LAN + INTERNET Router Setup
I can connect locally.
I can connect from a computer (with the proper HOSTS file) on the LAN.
However I canNOT connect from a computer coming in from the 'net.

Required ports are open.
.conf files have been reset to use the DynDNS.
The realmlist table in the realmd SQL has been changed.

I have followed this guide to the letter, and it SHOULD be working.
On the REALMD DOS window I can see the authentication attempt, and it shows as successful, however on the client side it gets 90% of the way through logging on and it stops at the "Success!" part, and just sits there.
If I hit Cancel there, it goes to "Retrieving Realm List" and then just sits there.

So fill me in on what should be happening in the background at this point, so I can troubleshoot this.

The authentication from the Realmd, when successful, should then connect to the Mangos part and allow the user to select a realm, right? Or is that realm selection pre-Mangos still. If that's the case, then I'm guessing I've got a loopback somewhere in my settings, but everything has been set as above, even the server's hosts file.

Perplexing. Mildly annoying, but mostly perplexing.

[MaNGOS] LAN + INTERNET Router Setup
Fixed it.

I had been banging my head against an issue where the server would just show "Success!" and then not take you anywhere further.

Problem was I had two entries in the Realmlist section, one for the local connection, and one for the 'net connection.

Remove the local one and just have ONE entry in the SQL Realmlist, and if you are getting stuck on that "Success!" entry, you should be able to proceed now.

Now I can screw around with my server from work! Tongue

wat u needto do and Raen to update in the guide is:

in c:windows\system32\drivers\etc\host file, u need to use 192.168.0.xxx or w.e ip your router gave the server is on the non server lan computers.

so to be clear, on the server(host)'s "host" file, do what the guide said.
for the other computers(clients?) on the lan, instead of 127.0.0.1, use the ip address the router gave the server

that's the only i got it to work perfectly

i still need to test if ppl on the outside can connect

I did follow your guide. Great guide at that. This is the only one I found on Google. And people outside my LAN could connect. My LAN couldn't connect though, but read the 16th post to see what I did to fix it, and I recommend you change the first post to it. Anyways, I didn't do anything, and now people outside my lan can't connect. I looked through my router's page and I just saw the Dynamic DNS. I'll enable it now... to see if it works again, but I dont see how it worked before and then stopped working.

Ive got everything:

The ports: (3724, 8085, 3443, 8080) to my network IP: 192.168.1.55

realmd_bc.conf:
# Database connection settings for the realm server.
# Default: hostname;port;username;password;database
LoginDatabaseInfo = "malle666.game-host.org;3306;root;password;realmd_bc"

mangos_bc.conf:
# Database connection settings for the world server.
# Default: hostname;port;username;password;database
LoginDatabaseInfo = "malle666.game-host.org;3306;root;password;realmd_bc"
WorldDatabaseInfo = "malle666.game-host.org;3306;root;password;mangos_bc"

In the database - realmd_bc - realmlist -> malle666.game-host.org

I can connect to my own Server, the Computer in my network, too.
But my friends from the Internet cant connect :/
Ive open the PORTS whats the Problem?

When my friends are connect they see the realm and then it stuck by "Login realm"
